James Tavernier believes Rangers have a chance of reaching the Europa League semi-finals, despite facing a tough Athletic Bilbao side.

Rangers captain and right-back James Tavernier believes his side can be confident of reaching the Europa League semi-finals ahead of Thursday’s trip to Athletic Bilbao in the second leg of their last-16 tie.

‘We will try to give our all on the pitch without any regrets and whoever is asked to come on, if they are not in the starting 11, they will give their all,’ Tavernier said. ‘That’s what we will do, especially with the fans who travel to support us and the fans at home.

‘It’s all in our hands, isn’t it? You’re facing 11 opponents and it’s in our hands to win this game, to give them a tough night. We only control our own destiny and that’s the most important thing.’

‘We have to give it our all and play aggressively tomorrow. Like I said, we’re going to suffer, but we’re going to suffer together as a team and attack together as a team. When I say driver’s seat, that’s what I mean. We can only control the outcome and what we do.’

Rangers have enjoyed impressive results against rivals Malmo, Nice, Olympiacos, Spurs and Fenerbahce in this competition, and Tavernier believes his side can go on and on again.

‘It’s obvious when you look at the opponents we’ve played so far and the games leading up to this round. If you look at the teams that have qualified, we’ve played most of the teams that have qualified.’

‘We believe we can play against anyone on our day and we always believe we can compete with any team. The European competition is always good for us. We’ve a lot of belief in this dressing room.’

‘We know what we have to do. We’ve to be alert tomorrow and always be focused. We know we will suffer as well as teams without the ball. We’re looking forward to that and hopefully we can cope with them.’
